Did you know that approximately 1 in 5 adults in the United States experience mental illness in a given year? Mental illnesses are some of the most common illnesses affecting individuals and their effect can be devastating. However, mental illness remains a taboo subject, and those who suffer from it often feel stigma from their diagnosis. Additionally, mental illnesses are not well understood, so treatment can be very difficult.
As three former classmates at Marquette, we are trying to do our part in helping those with mental illness by auctioning off our artwork to donate to the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation. For us, art is a hobby, but as former undergraduates and current graduate students, populations where the rate of mental illness is higher than the general population, we would like to use our hobby to aid those in need. All of our proceeds will go to the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation.
